Vocabulary cards...
master the SAT words you need.
The bulk of the Q Cards deck consists of 382 vocabulary cards, displaying
2674 words that have appeared on national standardized college admissions
tests. Words designated with an asterisk deserve special attention because
they are the ones in the deck that have appeared most frequently.
Each vocabulary card displays 7 words that share a theme based on their most
familiar meaning. Each theme may include only one or more than 10 cards.
Unlike an alphabetical listing, grouping words in this manner gives you the
opportunity to make associations, enhancing your understanding and recall. All vocabulary words are defined on the back and used in an illustrative
sentence, also constructed in a manner to improve understanding and
recall.
Selected vocabulary words are displayed with additional information. Throughout
the deck you will find vocabulary words accompanied by one or two of the 98 word
elements you encountered on the initial 14 Q Cards. This provides you with
another means of understanding these elements and their role in defining words.
Other vocabulary words have a question mark printed below them. The question
mark is a cue, indicating the vocabulary word and the one above it are either
synonyms or antonyms. Use the opportunity to guess and build your knowledge
of these word relationships.
The importance of increasing your knowledge of word relationships and
associations can't be overstated. It's a fact that the more mental
connections you are able to make with a piece of new information, the
longer it stays in memory, the more quickly it can be learned, and the
easier it is to retrieve when you need it. Q Cards provides the
connections you need to rapidly build a vocabulary that lasts, ideal
for the SAT but also one that will pay lifelong dividends.
